What is FitoBox^® and why choose it

How to build a system with FitoBox^®

A FitoBox^® constructed wetland is built by excavating a trench 80 cm deep (100 cm for vertical flow), with an area that depends on the volume and characteristics of the wastewater to be treated.

The resulting basin is waterproofed with the high-resistance PVC liner and filled with selected aggregate (gravel), into which the aquatic plants are planted directly.

Through the internal pipework and the level-control device, the water level inside the system is kept approximately 15 cm below the gravel surface: the system is therefore walkable, there are no insect breeding or odour problems, and it can be placed immediately adjacent to a building.

After approximately 12 months the plants cover the entire gravel surface. They do not spread outside the system since they are aquatic species whose roots must remain submerged.

For a legally compliant result, the required system area is approximately 3.5–5 m² per population equivalent served. For example, to treat the wastewater from a 5-person dwelling, a system of just 20 m² is sufficient.

Wastewater from a dwelling first passes through a standard septic tank and is then fed into the constructed wetland system.

Large systems with multiple FitoBox^® units

FitoBox^® allows large systems to be divided into multiple basins operating in series or in parallel, reaching up to 480 m² total area.
