Constructed wetlands are suitable for the treatment of wastewater produced by a very wide range of activities. Being natural systems tolerant of load fluctuations, they are particularly well suited to seasonal and rural facilities not connected to the public sewer network.

📅 Why constructed wetlands are ideal for seasonal facilities
Conventional activated sludge systems suffer when organic loads fluctuate dramatically — the bacterial biomass starves during low-use periods and cannot recover quickly enough when the facility reopens. Constructed wetlands are completely different: their long hydraulic retention times and the resilience of the root-zone microbiome mean they handle seasonal variation with ease.
A winery that produces wastewater only for a few weeks during harvest, or an agritourism farm that is empty in winter and full in summer, is a perfect candidate for a constructed wetland.
One technology — many applications
Since 1998 we have designed and built constructed wetland systems for virtually every type of discharge: from 4-PE single-family homes to 1,800-PE resort complexes, from boutique wineries to large co-operative cellars, from private residences to public institutions, from Italy to Tanzania and Iraq.
If the wastewater is predominantly biological — and there are no major industrial chemical loads — a constructed wetland will almost certainly be the most effective, most economical and most sustainable solution available.
